In case you missed the glamorous CAF Awards 2023, don’t bother. Here is a list of the awardees and a dose of all that went down. The award was held in Movenpick Hotel on Monday, December 11 in the beautiful city of Marrakesh, the capital of Morocco.
The highlight of the night was the emergence of the Super Eagles and Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen who was crowned the CAF African Player of the Year after defeating the Paris Saint-Germain winger Achraf Hakimi who plays for the Moroccan national team, and Liverpool’s right winger, Mohammed Salah who plays for the Pharaohs of Egypt.
Victor Osimhen has just had an awesome 2022/2023 football season finishing as the top goal scorer with 26 goals also helping the Italian side, Napoli get its first Italian Seria A title since 1990.
Nigerian Women Footballers Took The Shine At The CAF AWARDS 2023
Asisat Oshoala was on the top spot as she clenched the award for the Best Female Player of the Year, making it her sixth time. The Super Falcons and Barcelona striker was named the Best Female Player in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022.
Nigerian Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie was named the Goalkeeper of the Year as she had a great season with Paris FC and an outstanding performance with the Super Falcons.
Other Awardees At The CAF Awards 2023
Moroccan Walid Regragui, who coaches the Atlas Lions of Morocco, emerged as the CAF’s Best Coach of the Year in the Men’s category after an outstanding performance in the 2022 World Cup in Quatar.
The Banyana Banyana head coach, Desiree Ellis won CAF’s best coach award in the female category. She has been a consistent winner of the award since 2018.
For the CAF Interclub category, Percy Tau won the CAF Interclub Player of the Year. He had a great season with the Al Ahly and the South African’s Bafana Bafana.
The award of the CAF’s Young Player of the Year was given to Senegal’s Lamine Camara who plays as a forward in the French side, Mertz. The 19-year-old
The Inaugural CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year was clinched by the young dynamite, Nesryne El Chad.
One great ward of the night was the Men’s National Team award which was clinched by Morocco’s national team owing to their beautiful performance at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022. On the other hand, the Super Falcons of Nigeria won the Women’s National Team award.
For the Male Club of the Year category, the African giants, Al Ahly emerged as the winner while the South African side, Mamelodi Sundowns clinched the Female Club of the Year award.
The Banyana Banyana of South Africa showed prowess in the Continent’s Best XI Players in the Women Category and on the other hand, two Players from the Moroccan National team were included in the male version.
